Crowns & Bridges

What are Restorations?

Restorations are customized devices used to complete or alter your oral structure for a more uniform look and to establish better functionality. Dr. Bermingham uses dental crowns to strengthen a tooth and minimally-invasive bridges to complete a row of teeth. Each mechanism is quality-built and placed by our doctor following careful examination and measurements, as well as an explanation of the procedure. If you or a loved one is experiencing heavily discolored, misshapen, or missing teeth, call our e AV Dental Care office today to inquire about superior dental crowns and bridges.

Receiving a Crown

The process to rejuvenate your smile with a crown starts with a diagnosis by our dentist confirming that a tooth affected by decay, discoloration, or minor breakage can be sufficiently treated through a full-enclosure cap. Portions of the affected tooth are removed to make room for the new crown to surround the tooth without pushing the other teeth out of place.

After that, an impression is taken and sent to the lab so they can create a custom crown for your tooth. You will be provided with a temporary crown until the final restoration is complete in about two weeks. The porcelain materials used to create the device serve several purposes, including looking natural and remaining durable for years if properly maintained.

Dental Bridge

Bridges typically utilize nearby, healthy teeth to support a middle row of false teeth. A ceramic tooth, also called a pontic, is fused between two or more porcelain crowns on either side of the missing tooth and serve as anchors. The anchor teeth are shaped to make room for the crowns and then a bridge is bonded over these teeth. A common misconception is that these devices are painful or uncomfortable, however, due to Dr. Bermingham’s extensive background and state-of-the-art appliances, our bridges are assembled and positioned accurately to feel and look great from the first time they are applied.

Repairing Previous Restorations

Some patients arrive with past dental bridgework which has lost its luster or effectiveness. If the item is repairable, we carefully analyze it to determine the correct method to fix it. Dr. Bermingham uses resin composite to bond, seal, and shape the restoration while maintaining a natural appearance. The material is sturdy and lustrous, allowing the device to remain in place and stay functional. Additionally, we can provide an entirely new crown or bridge through our trusted dental lab.
